Happy 4th of July from Mini Pig Oscar!

This year is Oscar’s second 4th of July, so we decided to try recreating some of his pictures from last year. Although he’s still as cute as ever, Oscar noticed that his hat seems quite a bit smaller this year.  Happy 4th of July from Mini Pig Oscar, Rylee, and family! Have a safe and happy 4th!

  1. Ya, he’s definitely got a bigger head :o) His snout is longer, too. But he’s still teeny and cute as ever. Has he grown much since his last weigh in?

    1. Haha…I noticed the bigger head too! It’s funny how their whole structure kind of changes. They go from having those stubby, tiny baby snouts to having much larger snouts that stick out farther on their face. He’s definitely still cute though and, although he was adorable as a baby, I don’t get too nostalgic because I enjoy him more now that the bond is stronger.

He has actually grown quite a bit! I was surprised how much he grew after his 1st birthday. I know they keep growing for 3 to 5 years, but he had quite a growth spurt right after he turned one. I’ve been meaning to do his 15-month weigh in, so maybe I’ll do that soon. I haven’t weighed him since his birthday, so I’m super curious to see how much he’s gained. 🙂

  2. And the spot on his nose has changed. Same with Elmer. He had these small spots on his nose and they’re so much larger now. I wonder if they’ll eventually cover his entire nose.

    1. I love seeing how their spots change, on their noses and on their bodies. Oscar’s body spots look really different, and his little nose coloration has grown and really darkened. Not sure if the spots keep growing or if they eventually stop but it’ll be interesting to watch. Not sure if I’ve ever mentioned this, but I love Elmer’s name. It’s just the perfect pig name. 🙂

      1. Oh, thanks. I had several names I liked but I thought Elmer was cute so I went with that. I also didn’t want to name him something silly, like a name with bacon, pork or ham in it. I’m glad you didn’t name Oscar something silly like that, unless you named him after Oscar Mayer? :o)

        1. I actually worry sometimes that people think I named him after Oscar Mayer…haha. My husband just really liked the name Oscar for him, so we went with that. Later, I thought about the possible reference to Oscar Mayer and was afraid people would think that. But, it’s just Oscar. 🙂 Yeah, I think Elmer’s name is perfect. I don’t hear it often and it’s a people name, which I like. I have come to really prefer people names for pets. I come across a funny and unique bacon/pork/ham name every once in a while (Hamela Anderson had me laughing the other day), but mostly they’re overused at this point. People names are always my favorites, and I love seeing the ones people choose.
